Laboratory Equipment Needed in Cleanrooms

In the creation of products in the medical, manufacturing and scientific research industry, there is a need to work in an environment that is free from any pollutants or substances. These contaminants can produce unwanted factors on the procedure being done whether it is an investigative study or a product that is being developed.

Cleanrooms are where scientists and medical researchers work. These are rooms where all variables are controlled to ensure that the air in the room is clean and free of any contaminants. There are pieces of laboratory equipment that can help with keeping the room clean like air filters and air showers. If the studied material needs to be stored in a humidity-controlled storage, Desiccators are used.  If the scientist needs a work station with laminar air flow, he can make use of a Laminar Flow Hood.

The sterility of a room is crucial which is why clean rooms are classified into different classes. Each class can only allow a number of micron particles in the room. Iso Clean Rooms are classified from 3 to 8. Classes 3-5 works with .5 micron particles while classes 6-8 works with 1-.5 micron particles.

When working in clean rooms, not only should the instruments and equipment be sterilized but the clothing of workers should be sterile as well. Gowns, head coverings, gloves, face masks and foot coverings are needed before entering the cleanroom. There are some clean rooms that are stricter which may require a breathing apparatus to be worn.
